Columbia Men’s Basketball Posts Impressive Wins Over Temple and SUNY Delhi

The Columbia University men’s basketball team picked up a pair of impressive wins this week, defeating Temple University, 78-73, on Saturday and NCAA Division III opponent SUNY Delhi, 105-60, on Wednesday.

Columbia Defeats SUNY Delhi

There was no question about Columbia’s 45-point victory over SUNY Delhi. Sophomore forward Zine Eddine Bedri scored a Lions career-high 20 points, while first-year forward Arop Arop scored 10 points in 15 minutes of play. Columbia’s defence was also impressive, racking up 18 steals and causing 21 turnovers in the game.

Columbia Falls Narrowly to Temple

Columbia was evenly matched against Temple, but a balanced effort from the entire team saw the Lions come out on top. Seven Lions scored eight or more points, including 13 points from sophomore guard Avery Brown. Templar guard Hazel Miller scored a game-high 29 points, but the Lions’ defence limited the Owls to 38 percent shooting from the field.

Key moments prove crucial in first half

A small 10-0 run late in the first half proved to be the difference in the game. Junior guard Jaden Cooper hit two consecutive three-pointers to give the Light Blue a 44-37 lead at halftime.

Engels Stresses Importance of ‘Unsolved Runs’

Head Coach Jim Engels emphasised the importance of the unanswered run in a post-game interview with ESPN+.

“We stayed in the game and had the hot hand. We started making shots and scoring on every possession,” Engels said.” That was the game.

Lions stall Temple’s final possession

Temple cut Columbia’s lead to two points in the final minutes of the game, but the Lions held on with key free throws from young guard Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa.

Colombia looks to extend winning streak

Columbia has won two straight games and will look to extend their winning streak to four when they take on Long Island University (0-3) on Tuesday.
